Brookshine Kindergarten

KINDERGARTEN / PRE-SCHOOL

Our Early Years programme is guided by the UK’s Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) framework to provide quality educational experiences for learners from two (2) years to five (5) years old. The EYFS sets standards for the learning, development and care of children.

It supports an integrated approach to early learning and care and gives all professionals a set of common principles and commitments to deliver quality early education and childcare experiences to all children.

Our programme promotes teaching and learning in a supportive environment where our learners are prepared to take risks. They develop knowledge, skills and understanding which provide a solid foundation and readiness to enter our primary programme.

We have four classes in kindergarten according to the different age groups, below:

  • Entry class for children aged 1.5-2 years
  • Second class for children aged 2-3years
  • Intermediate class for children aged 3-4years
  • Final class in kindergarten for children aged 4-5years

PRIMARY SCHOOL

As of 2024, the primary school curriculum in Kenya under the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC) is designed to build upon the foundational learning from primary education (Grade 1 to 6 CBC) and prepare students for further education or vocational pathways. Here are the key components and features of the junior secondary school curriculum:

1. Core Subjects and Competencies:
– The CBC emphasizes competency-based learning in core subjects such as languages (English, Kiswahili), mathematics, sciences (biology, chemistry, physics), social studies (history, geography, civics), and religious education or ethics.
– Each subject focuses on developing specific competencies aligned with national educational goals and international standards.

2. Integrated Learning Areas:
– Beyond core subjects, the curriculum integrates other learning areas to provide a holistic education experience. These may include technology, arts and sports, life skills, environmental studies, entrepreneurship, and vocational skills.

As of our last update, the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC) in Kenya has been gradually implemented across different levels of education, including senior high school. The CBC aims to shift from the traditional content-based curriculum to one that focuses on developing competencies and skills among learners. Here’s an overview of the senior high school curriculum under the CBC:

1. Structure and Duration:
– Senior high school in Kenya typically consists of two years (Form 3 and Form 4).
– The curriculum is structured to provide a broad and balanced education, focusing on both academic subjects and technical and vocational skills.

2. Competency Areas:
– The CBC emphasizes seven key learning areas (competency areas) that are integrated into the curriculum:
– Languages (English, Kiswahili, and an option of a foreign language)
– Mathematics
